History of the School

VHEST “Professor Asen Zlatarov” has it`s own 45 year old history

     The school was established in 1966 with an order from the Ministry of Education – N1-860 from 15th August 1966 as a Vocational technical school of industrial chemistry under the subordination of the Ministry of Chemistry and metallurgy. The objective of its establishment was to prepare students for the needs of the petrochemical plant built in Pleven by that time.

     15th of September 1966 was the first day of school for the first class. 249 students were accepted in two specialties – “Technology of petrol” and “Instrumentation and equipment in the chemical industry”. In the next few years new specialties were created connected to the production of polymers, glass works, with support and upkeep of the machinery and devices in the chemical industry.

     Classed were held in the building of the Teacher`s Faculty in Pleven and later – in the classrooms of “Nikola Fichev” School of Engineering and Architecture.

     First few years the staff has been working under harsh conditions. There was no space and educational facilities. Manufactoring practice was held in the petrochemical plant in Bourgas as the refinery near Pleven was not yet finished

     On February 16th 1968 both staff and students of the school solemnly accept the name of the eminent Bulgarian scientist, chemist and educator professor-doctor Asen Zlatarov as its patron. By decree of the Presidium of the National Assembly was approved the name of the school - Vocational technical school of industrial chemistry “Asen Zlatarov”.

     The first class graduated in May 1969

     On 20th January 1971 was made the first sod for the construction of its own building, and on 11th April 1972 was held the first lesson in the new building.

     The school is the first in the region which has its own computer laboratory. On 13th November 1984 was officially opened the Automation and Electronics Complex with its own computer laboratory and television studio, by the Minister of Education – prof.Alexander Fol, and the Minister of Professional Education of the Soviet Union – N.Petrovicheff.

     In 1987 the school was pronounced Complex National Champion in the system of professional education for 1986. It has been rewarded with the Flag of Labor (Working) Honor and 10000 leva award.

     In September 1990 was accepted the first class of the profession “’Technology of the polymers”. On the next school year is revealed reception of 2nd class with 4 educational years – “Machines and devices in chemical industry”, for the 1992/1993 school`s year – a 3rd one with the specialty “Technology of Environmental Protection”. The logical end of the restructuring of the school was the rename with an order from the Ministry of National Defence.

     Since 1999 students are educated after graduated 7th grade in classes with intense study in German language in specialties “Technology of Environmental Protection” and “Microprocessor Technology”. After 2004/2005 school`s year were accepted students after graduated 8th grade in “Computer science and technology” with intense education in German language

     In connection to the restructuring of secondary education in the country, with an order from the Ministry of Education and Science, on the 7th April 2003 the school was renamed Professional High School of Electronics and Chemical Technologies “Prof.Asen Zlatarov”.
